Squeaksqueaksqueak

No, I’m not speaking in my native hamster tongue. It’s the air conditioner. It’s squeaking. It still works, it’s just a wearing belt or needs to be oiled joint or something that’s simple, yet will require a call to an a/c person to fix.

*sigh* Right before summer, too.

Fanime and real life

One of the people I roomed with at fanime swiped my toothpaste. I’m not pointing any fingers, though… *evil glare*

Fanime… was. There were people complaining about a lack of programming all around me, but programming isn’t why I go to these conventions anyway. Give me the karaoke room to work in, the tabletop gaming room to wander around in, and the arcade to waste time in, and enough people I know to never walk down the hallway without seeing someone, and I’ll be happy.

But anyway, I get back to real life on Monday to find a letter from the IRS. Turns out on my 2003 taxes I didn’t file a Schedule D, so, even though I paid my taxes on my Stock Options, when E*Trade finally got around to reporting it to the IRS, the IRS got a bit confused and thought there were additional transactions they want their cut of. So this morning, I had to head down to HR Block to get it sorted out. HR Block needs the 1099, of course, so I have to dig and dig and dig through the pile of unsorted papers (which I had started doing anyway, because I knew it was coming).

After that, I headed to Men’s Wearhouse to get my suit let out a bit, but I have to get it dry cleaned first. The dry cleaners has this big “1 day service” sign out on front, and a “same day service!” sign inside. I hand him the suit, and he tells me “Friday 4pm.”

Huh. Math works differently in a dry cleaners, I guess.

I then go to Fry’s to return the HD enclosure I bought that wouldn’t boot correctly, but I managed to completely forget to bring it, so that was a wasted trip.

I then went and bought new toothpaste.

Overall, a very frustrating morning.

As if by magic…

And once again, the Linux machine comes back online by itself, with uptime saying it’s been on this whole time.

Something smells…

Another Monday

In the grand tradition of Monday, the arm in the toilet broke as I was trying to flush it, and my Linux machine died again, just an hour after I’m at home to fix it, and a mere 8 hours before I’ll be home again.

Ugh.

The plot thickens…

So my machine’s back… mysteriously.

But the uptime says it’s been on for 5 days (remember 5 days ago?) so something else must have happened.

Did the network cable become unplugged or something?

Someone better fess up, I hope this isn’t a repeating problem (i.e. a burnt out network card.)

[random cursing]

My Linux machine has died again.

I don’t know why, all I know is that it stopped responding to pings, yet the gateway still is up, so the power’s still on in the room.

Looks like I’ve got an interesting evening ahead of me.

WHY ME! DAMMIT! ARGH! Is it too much to ask for something that DOESN’T BREAK! I’m not even messing with it! I’m not installing new hardware, I’m not installing new software… I even gave up on trying to get the printer working again!

ARGH!

Passwords

I have just locked myself out of two of my financial web-based accounts because I couldn’t remember which login/password I used.

*sigh*

Network Solutions

I finally renewed my domain name. Then, I realized my address was still my old apartment, so I updated that as well. The problem is that for every change I make, NSI sends not one, not two, not three, but FOUR emails.

1) We received your request, and will be shortly sending you a form to return to us.
2) Here is the form, please make sure everything is correct.
3) We received a form requesting a change, we’re just letting you know, just in case someone is spoofing your account, please verify.
4) We received your verification, thank you.

So I now have 8 emails from them at the bottom of my inbox.

On another, more positive note… I went to Berkeley on Saturday for a Warren Ellis signing. Supposedly his only signing in America this year, although I heard otherwise. I got my three items signed, asked my one question, then went across the street and ate a crepe, then bought some stuff at Games of Berkeley and got back on BART and went home.

Here’s something for you all to look forward to. For the last three days, instead of deleting my spam, I’ve been saving them to a folder. In four more days, I’m going to show the world just how much spam I get in a typical week. Prepare yourself….

What a wasted day.

The IS guy still isn’t here. I can’t get ahold of him via phone or email. It’s time to pull the next step in any corporate environment.

I’m gonna have my boss call his boss. That’ll light a fire under his rear.

(Man, at least he could have the decency to send an email to tell my why he hasn’t shown up all day)
