And I’m done

I finally got Captain rank in FFXI (took a screenshot but forgot to upload it).

With this, I am done with FFXI. I have posted a (rather length) goodbye post in my linkshell’s forums explaining my reasons for leaving in probably way more detail than anyone cares, but it feels good to actually say it.

The most important part is that I kept playing FFXI for the people, but my (sometimes more than) full time job kept me from playing enough and at the same times as most of them, so I lost that connection, and therefore my real reason for sticking around.

  1. It’s understandable, but I have to give you credit for seeing it through to a conclusion. In my case, other games to capture my rather segmented free time took the place of FFXI. (Not to mention that the local friends that played FFXI with me moved on as well.) – I’ve been gravitating toward most of the free-to-play/micro-transaction supported games out there, primarily Fiesta, Project Torque, and Dream of Mirror Online.

I didn’t quite make as many ties with other players as I did in FFXI, but then I’ve usually quietly faded away from playing at times. In the case of FFXI, I lost interest, got tired of grinding solo, or waiting for decent parties to join up with, and, of course, the machine I installed it to crapped out finally four months ago.

Be warned, however. Square Enix is teaming up with Games Campus to bring out a free-to-play game, “Concerto Gate” out here soon. Other than that, the only SQX in my life so far as my occasional rounds with FF Crystal Chronicles: My Life As A King on the Wii. (Took me around 100 days in-game to build my kingdom up to the highest level, roughly about just over a week’s time in real life.

Enjoy the journey, wherever it takes you, and say hello to Hank. (And as for me, I’ll see if I can get FFXI reactivated on here, at least long enough to close out my billing, or just call up their customer support. Thank God I hard-copied all my registration/activation information, and mirrored it among multiple drives.)
