I have arrived in Orange County. Again.

So, anyone else have that irrational fear that a huge double-trailer truck is going to change lanes into the lane you’re in when you’re right in the middle, when it’s too late to slow down behind it and too early to speed in front of it and your only option is to drive off the road onto the shoulder and dirt at 70 miles an hour?

Well, that happened to me today.

Aside from that nightmare-inducing incident, the drive down was uneventful and fast.

  1. I have that nightmare every time one of them pulls alongside me and then seemingly has issues with mundane things like lane markers.

Since you didn’t say much, I’m going to assume you & your car are ok until I hear otherwise.

  2. That’s happened to me when I was in the fast lane. The semi was in the middle and I had to slam hard on the brakes trying to get away and not crash into the concrete median (+ praying no one was behind me!).

Also had one where a semi in the slow lane flipped and cut off all lanes to the freeway except the slow lane (I was in the fast lane). We (my wife and I) were the only ones to get out of our van and help them (driver and passenger) out (with all the smoke and gas we thought the semi might catch fire). (Its all in my Jan 30th or 31st, 2004 entry)

Scary stuff. Glad you are alright.

  3. that happened to me too on a drive up with stanleystanley… he thought I purposefully was speeding toward the truck… =_=;; He was alseep at the time and didn’t see the truck cut me off… it’s weird to think of it that way… how can something so huge manuveur like that?? It’s almost like being cut off in slow motion… I’m glad you are okay though, so call me and let’s go eat something yummy!!
