Razza Frazza SBC

Stupid SBC is having problems with its DSL. All of its DSL, it seems, as a lot of people are disconnecting at the same time as us.

I was in an FFXI party at the time, just as the battle started, of course. By the time I get back, I’m staring at the dead body of a teammate, and I discover that I wasn’t the only one on SBC DSL in the party… the other Red Mage was as well.

I’m surprised they managed to kill the monster at all…

    Well, at least I know that

    * I’m not alone, and
    * It has nothing to do with the car that crashed into a building on the nearest major street to here.

  2. Been there, had it happen online, rebooted the machine two times after a few crazy runs through HijackThis. (Yes, if you delete a certain O17 entry without checking the IP addresses it lists, I found you can kill your DNS resolution! Thankfully it fixes itself on the next boot.)

    Anyway, I’ve had SBC do frequent disconnects on and off over the last week and a half. One time I had to actually roll back to the last Connection Manager snapshot. (I’m due for another one on Friday night.)

    Like I said, I need to can Connection Manager if that doesn’t violate ToS – I did, however, edit my system settings to make IE the default browser because I was tired of the SBC-skinned one being default. Sometimes Microsoft’s add-ons like “Set Program Access and Defaults” are helpful.

    As for FFXI, I need to get back there, but I’ve got some web-site, household, and cosplay-related items I need to take care of. A good FFXI session for me requires about 3-4 hours of my night, unless I run out of gas around 3 am, having not hopped on until 1 am.

    However, I do know the feeling when people drop out on you when their connection pulls the rug out from under them. It sucks, and you can count yourself lucky if you can win the battle with the loss of comrades.

    1. Oh, yeah, I forgot something. I noticed on my last romp through the SBC welcome page that they’ve stealth-upgraded Yahoo! MailPlus, bumping up the mail spool from 25MB (in my case) to 2GB, and overhauling the GUI. Snazzy, but not too distracting. I guess I can let my email sit for about 7 days instead of 2 between downloads through Outlook.
