Habitrail is alive again. No longer is it a RedHat Linux machine. It is now a Debian Linux machine.
Time will tell if this was a step forward or a step sideways. FTP will never again be turned on. (And for those of you who mentioned it, telnet hasn’t been running for almost two years.)
For those of you who use the IRC server, it’s back up, but I had to recompile the server… it should be functional (services are running and appear to remember all user information).
For those of you who had accounts, they’re there. (except for the bastard who hacked his)
Sometime over the weekend, I will be learning about firewalls.

i used to work for ‘the bind company.’ dan bernstein’s incessant ragging on shit that doesn’t really concern him made my life kinda suck… i hear he is a junior professor at UIC… maybe i will go kick his teeth in.

If you don’t mind my asking… what all are you using this machine for?
I personally use it as my mail-reading machine (fetchmail via my POP account) so I can access my mail anywhere.
It’s also a Samba file/print server (restricted to the local net), a webserver of my homepage, an IRC server and provides IP forwarding for the house’s wireless network.
A few people also have accounts on it and use it for random things.
